Spreading the name of Jesus Christ throughout the beautiful country of Guatemala
Friends and Family,
We are writing you today with some really exciting news for our family but first wanted to take the time to thank you for your continued prayer, encouragement, and partnership.
As you know, our family has been serving in Guatemala since June 2012 and we are back in Illinois on furlough right now. We have been receiving additional training, sharing how we’ve seen the Lord work, as well as meeting face-to-face with many of our partners during our time in the states. While this time has been busy and full of travel, it has been a huge blessing to us as well as our children. Thank you all for continuing to pour into us in so many ways!
Over the past several months the Lord has really challenged us in many ways. He continues to show us the need to spread the name of Jesus throughout Guatemala and confirm that calling on our lives. For a while now, God has been giving us glimpses of the children and families that are often forgotten… the ones with no mentors… the ones with no church family… and the ones without the hope that can only be found through Jesus Christ. The Lord has also shown us the need for care of children aging out of the orphanage system and has been challenging us with how we can change the future for so many that we refer to as orphans.
We feel privileged to have been able to help with the initial phase of Village of Hope under the leadership of Lifesong for Orphans and Project Hopeful. Getting licensed, working with government agencies, seeing the campus grow and develop, building the first family home, seeing house parents and even children arrive has been a blessing. But we are now being led in a new direction. We continue to pray for God’s blessings over the ministry, and ask you to do the same.
We are excited to announce that we have officially joined the team of Orphan Outreach. Orphan Outreach is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to glorifying the Lord through reaching out to the millions of at-risk children throughout the world. Orphan Outreach currently has 5 ministry sites in Guatemala which include: an orphanage called Little House of Refuge, a teenage girls home called My Special Treasure, and 3 schools – Good Shepherd Christian Academy, Guatemalan Association of Down Syndrome, and The Ravine School/Chimaltenango Garbage Dump. Check out this page to learn more.
We are going to be serving and spreading the name of Jesus throughout the nation of Guatemala under the care of Orphan Outreach. In doing so, we will be coming alongside the Guatemalan team, by evaluating existing programs, making sure goals are being met at each ministry site, evaluating each child to create a plan to ensure they are thriving, building an alliance of Guatemalan churches and pastors to encourage indigenous adoption and foster care which will lead to the downsizing of orphanages, construction oversight, music ministry to the children, and much more. We are so thrilled to see how the Guatemalan church is starting to understand what Scripture says about caring for the orphan and humbled that God would allow us to be a part of this change!
We can’t wait to be back on Guatemalan soil, we estimate a January return! Our initial 2 months back will be spent in an intensive language school while we begin to learn the ropes of Orphan Outreach. After that time our focus will shift fully to the ministry sites.
While we continue updating supporters, bring our son home, receive more missionary training, and transition back to the field we will continue to need the monthly support of people like you. Thank you, in advance for partnering with our family!
