beauty in the eyes of the hurting...

It's a daily thing here... looking in the face of despair... the face of the lonely... the face of the broken... the face of addiction... and the face of HOPElessness...

BUT Jesus...

Many of you read about Rosa over the last few months. She is the 13 year old girl that we met one day walking up the side of the mountain searching for vegetables to sell and she had dirt coming out the corners of her mouth. You see, she had been eating dirt to survive. Can you imagine the hunger pangs you would have to be experiencing in order to fill your belly with dirt? Can you imagine THIS being everyday life for you and your family...

Since that time, Rosa and her brothers have grown to trust us... they have grown to look forward to coming to Village of HOPE...

Often times they show up and the pain in their eyes is more than any of us can bare. Often times she's begging for a bag of beans or rice for her family... with the look of absolute DESPERATION on her face.

As I sat with Rosa and her brothers today... she was SO excited to paint with me... she knows WHY she was painting... to help raise funds for the lost, the lonely, and the hurting that Village of Hope is serving each day. What is really awesome about our God is that He allows the broken, like Rosa, like you and I, an opportunity to give HOPE to others who so desperately need it.

As we sat down to paint, her 2 little brothers DEVOURED some crackers as fast as they possibly could...

and as we shared that GOD had provided those crackers for them... THIS is what I was blessed to see staring back at me...

you see... they WANT to know... the Lord is drawing them to HIMSELF... and it is absolutely BEAUTIFUL...

Of all the times we've spent with Rosa and her brothers, we RARELY see her smile. In fact, there are countless times that we ask her a question or just try to talk and she is so numb that it seems as if she isn't really there... like she's not hearing what we are saying... so we just continue to speak words of TRUTH over her life... and share JESUS with her and her family!

Today was a really special day for us and for her -

and we saw smiling.... we even heard laughing... oh how we rejoiced and told her how BEAUTIFUL her laughter was...

Today Rosa got to paint.... for the FIRST time in her life...

For one morning she got to be a child... to let go of the fears of coming home with no food... the despair of no food in her home or in her belly...

and hear about Jesus.... how HE loves her... how HE can heal our wounds... how He makes beauty from ashes... and how He LOVES her!

Matthew 25:35 - "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave m something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in"
