Making a difference in the life of a child!

"Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, 'Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow' - when you now have it with you."
Prov 3:27-28

I talked to Joanne yesterday who told me that until she looked into the eyes of a child in need, it wasn't as real. Until she saw poverty and AIDS first hand, she didn't quite understand. And until a sweet little girl looked her in the face and asked her to be her mother, her heart hadn't been gripped!

How can we make a difference in the life of a child? I could write a book on this, but today we're going to focus on a practical way that YOU can help out a child in need right NOW, this week, this month, wherever you live!
Our small group is putting together a cookout in some of the lower income areas of our town, where we will offer free meals, get to know the people, and donate school supplies for their children! Whatever school supplies aren't used during this cookout, we are going to donate to the local schools and local foster care children. Last year in Livingston County, over 30% of children came to school without the supplies they needed... simply because they couldn't afford them!

Would you consider joining in on this FUN way to make a difference? Would you consider doing this in YOUR town? Share with me how you are making a difference in the life of a child!

Contact me if you're interested in getting involved.
**And take advantage of some of the GREAT sales on school supplies going on right now!
I just picked up all these items for $10 -
That's right... that's 4 three ring binders, 11 rulers, 38 folders, 5 boxes of markers, 10 notebooks, 7 pads of paper, 3 spiral notebooks, 3 mini-spiral notebooks, and 6 two packs of erasers. Now that's what I call a deal fellow couponers! Wa-bam!

Where have we been?

You know that phone call? The one that makes your heart stop... your stomach ache... and your eyes well up? Well, we got ANOTHER one of those on Saturday, July 10th. About 6 weeks ago my grandmother died so the grieving process is all too fresh in our minds and hearts. And when the woke up to the phone ringing that Saturday morning telling me that my father had died, my heart stopped.

As you can imagine, it was a long week. A rough week. A week filled with all kinds of emotions, thoughts, and regrets. A week filled with questions. A week filled with relationships restored. And a week filled with clinging to Jesus in the midst of it all.

So where are we 8 days later? We are finding healing knowing that 'the maker of the stars, hears the sound of our broken hearts!'
"Our hope is found in nothing less, than Jesus' blood and righteousness!"

Thank you sweet friends and family. Thank you for encouraging us. Thank you for holding us up in prayer. Thank you for speaking words of TRUTH to us. Thank you for suggesting that we camp in Philippians this past week (we did and it was soooo healing to do so!) Thank you Pastor Brian for the amazing message at my father's funeral. Thank you fellow believers for responding when God prompted you to act - for responding to a need that you didn't even know existed. Thank you YAC for holding us and giving us one thing this past week to look forward to! Thank you body of Christ... for being the hands and feet!
